Arts for Health

Arts for Health (Milton Keynes) uses arts and creativity to improve health and wellbeing.

Arts for Health grew out of the voluntary Hospital Arts Committee that had the vision to develop an art collection at the hospital. Hospitals are often very stressful places to be admitted to, to visit and to work in.  The collection at MK Hospital has grown to include nearly 400 art works which help to make visits to MK Hospital less stressful.  Arts for Health also organises an annual Art Prize for artists interested in exhibiting in the hospital.

Arts for Health’s work also improves health and wellbeing by providing opportunities for people to take part in arts activities.  The main focus of this work is an Arts on Prescription programme which offers free art workshops on referral for people who experience stress, anxiety or depression.  Participants report that taking part has helped them to build confidence, develop skills and make friends. Building on the success of this work, Arts for Health have now expanded its workshop programme to include specific strands of work for People with Dementia and Young People.
