360 Play launch Christmas Toy Appeal

Date Posted:03/12/2014

360 Play Milton KeynesFollowing the recent announcement that Milton Keynes’ favourite children’s play centre, 360 Play, is to officially support local charity Emily’s Star in 2014/15, the company has now launched its Christmas Give a Gift Appeal which will benefit those supported by the charity.

Emily’s Star was set up in memory of Emily Elizabeth Mainwaring who was born with Trisomy 18, otherwise known as Edwards Syndrome, and who sadly passed away 26 days after her birth. The charity was set up by Emily’s mother Katie and has a number of objectives. The main activity is to raise funds for the Children with Complex Needs Nurses and families in Milton Keynes, and eventually across the UK, who care for children with life limiting and life threatening illnesses.

Additionally, the charity aims to raise awareness of Trisomy 18 and to provide neonatal boxes – Emily’s gift – to local neonatal units, which include items for both mothers and premature or underweight babies.

And now, with Christmas approaching, one of 360 Play’s first initiatives with the charity will be to collect toys to hand out to children who are having to spend Christmas in hospital. The toys will be delivered to the children’s ward at Milton Keynes General Hospital, where the neonatal unit is located, to ensure every child who has to stay in hospital over Christmas receives a present from Santa this year.

“The children's ward looks after a wide age range, from babies through to age 16, so presents can include puzzles, arts and crafts sets, books, DVDs, chocolate box selections, board games as well as rattles and mobiles for the younger babies,” said 360 Play business development manager Adam Skinner. “And in return for any toys received through our Give a Gift Appeal we will be providing those donating with a voucher for a parent and child to come and play at 360 Play.”

The toy collections will begin on Monday, December 1st., and will continue until Thursday, December 18th. (Please note that due to infection control procedures, used items cannot be accepted). Those donating just need to take their toy along to 360 Play to receive their complimentary play voucher.

360 Play, at Knowlhill, is a popular destination for families with young children and continues to support the local community in various ways, including its assistance of Emily’s Star which, as a registered charity, is dependent on the financial support of and donations from local organisations and individuals.
