Bytes Festival returns for some Sci Fi fun this Easter

Dalek and Star WarsGet Creative, Get Digital at the Easter Bytes Festival at The National Museum of Computing from 25th March - 10th April and open from 12 - 5pm each day.

Educational fun for all the family, providing Bytes sized tasters of coding, robotics, game design, virtual reality, programming, and much much more!

Free entry into the museum for any children under 16 years old who come in sci fi related outfits on the 26th & 27th March.

During our festival there will be:

Family Fun

  • Meet Star Wars characters, as the UK Garrison take over the museum (only 26th March)
  • Come along and meet the Daleks and their friends - and enemies! (only 26th and 27th Macrh)
  • Meet Bernie, the Northampton Saints mascot
  • Win prizes

Coding and building computer-controlled devices

  • Have a go at coding with Ocado Technology’s Rapid Router
  • Pi-Top workshops – Learn how to code, make hardware, and 3D print with their immersive Raspberry Pi game
  • FUZE workshop providing introductions to coding
  • Learn the fundamentals of computing coding with Bits & Bytes


  • See and play with robots
  • Build & program your own Lego robot
  • See OhBot, the moving, talking robot head and have a go at programming one
  • Learn how to programme with Mirobot and make your robot draw pictures.

Augmented Reality

  • Try your hand at the latest gaming technology
  • Bring coloured drawings to life
  • Try out some of the latest apps available


  • Have a go at drawing and editing photos with Wacom tablets

Video Games

  • Create and play your own video game and share it with the world
  • See and play the evolution of football games over a host of consoles
  • Play retro games from the past decades

Virtual Reality and Wearable Tech

  • The latest in VR: Oculus Rift combined with a LEAP controller
  • MyndPlay - Try your hand at using your brain waves to control objects and apps
  • Convert your smartphone into a cut-down Oculus Rift

Entry Price:
£7.50 per person (£5.00 concessions). Concessions prices are for those aged 60 and over, students, children aged 5 to 16. Under-5s free.
Family tickets (2 adults and up to 3 children) £20.00.
Big Bytes Family Ticket - £65 - This allows access to all Bytes Festival dates for a year.
