Christmas launches in Milton Keynes!

Date Posted:16/11/2015

All eyes were on Queens Court at centre:mk on 13th November as Milton Keynes came together to launch the festive season with the official Christmas light switch on at 5pm.

As the heart of the city’s launch into Christmas, centre:mk revealed its brand new lights scheme, specially curated by renowned light designer James Glancy. The new scheme, which will be admired by around 4 million shoppers flocking to the centre over the Christmas period, features 28 giant colourful presents, each spanning 4m2 and wrapped in 16m long gold ribbons.

Celebrations started with a spectacular stage show featuring musical performances from Danesborough Chorus and the celebrity cast of Milton Keynes Theatre’s pantomime, Aladdin. Mayor of Milton Keynes, Councillor Keith McLean then stepped up to the big red button to illuminate the thousands of lights in Queens Court and the centre’s impressive Christmas tree. This year the tree is surrounded by a glistening Wishing Pool in aid of Willen Hospice.

Following the main event, Santa Claus made his spectacular rooftop arrival to mark the start of the traditional parade up to his grotto in Middleton Hall; along the way lighting hundreds of thousands of tree lights along Midsummer Boulevard, creating a stunning river of light from Station Square to Campbell Park.

Shaun Rhodes, Head Of Marketing for centre:mk,
“We’ve worked with our partners to introduce fantastic new additions to this year’s Christmas which everyone can enjoy throughout the season. Our spectacular new light scheme will be marvelled by around 4 million shoppers over the Christmas period and with our traditional Santa Grotto and newly launched German Christmas Market, we hope visitors will have a truly magical experience.”

Paul Hinson, Chief Executive, Willen Hospice,
“We’re absolutely thrilled and hugely appreciative that the centre:mk have chosen to support Willen Hospice as the beneficiary of this year’s Christmas wishing pool. The Hospice needs to raise around £7 every minute of the year to fund the specialist care we provide to our patients and their loved ones, and those who will spare some change and throw it into the wishing pool during their Christmas shopping trip will be directly supporting Hospice care in
this community.”
