English National Ballet brings world-class dance to MK Theatre

Date Posted:08/10/2015

English National Ballet Milton KeynesOne of the world’s great ballet companies (and yes, it’s home-grown) brings the world’s greatest love story which, of course, was imagined in the first place by the world’s greatest playwright, to Milton Keynes Theatre from 22 – 24 Oct.

Add to that the inventive and passionate choreography of none other than the late, great Rudolf Nureyev and a wonderful piece of classical music by Prokofiev that just about everyone can hum along to, and what have you got? Romance to die for!

Which, of course, is exactly what these star-crossed lovers went and did.

English National Ballet’s stunning version of Romeo and Juliet will transport you to Renaissance Verona where, beneath the day-to-day comings and goings in the city’s bustling piazza, there lurks a dangerous atmosphere. As a long-held feud develops between the Capulet and Montague families so a fateful series of events are unleashed that will end with a tragic, final embrace.

Commemorating the events of 100 years ago, Lest We Forget is a poignant reflection on World War l that moved and astounded, not only the audience at Sadler’s Wells, but also the crowd at last year’s Glastonbury.

Liam Scarlett, Russell Maliphant and Akram Khan, three of the most sought-after choreographers working today, have created a triple bill of dance works full of unforgettable and haunting images. The pieces express the experiences of those who fought the war as well as those who stayed behind. For one unmissable performance in Milton Keynes only, on Tue. 20 Oct.
