IF: Milton Keynes International Festival is the hot hit of the summer!

Date Posted:26/07/2016

IF Milton Keynes 2016This year’s Festival (15 - 24 July) has proved to be one of the most colourful and exciting so far, with world-class events and international artists - and glorious sunshine - bringing many thousands of people together to enjoy world-class events across the City Centre and at South Willen Lake Park.

There were 10 days of extraordinary events created by over 300 artists from Australia, UK, USA, Ireland, Catalonia, Italy, Africa, India, France, Mexico, Argentina, and Germany, many working closely with local people and businesses. Over 60% of events were free to attend.

The Festival is still adding up final audience attendance figures though around 500,000 people were able to enjoy the installations in centre:mk (the Festival’s headline Sponsor) including Miguel Chevalier’s Magic Carpets 2016 and Sound Spheres by Ray Lee in Middleton Hall.

Other highlights included the epic Dominoes project by Station House Opera on Saturday 16 July which brought thousands together in Milton Keynes City Centre as supersized white blocks toppled from The Point and rippled through intu, Xscape and the Theatre District, crossing roads and porte cochères and taking detours through cars, vans, bars and houses en route to the finale on Midsummer Boulevard. Attracting huge attention on social media, with several athletic enthusiasts running the entire two kilometre route, #DominoesMK was trending on Twitter.

Participation in the Festival by local people was fantastic with over 400 volunteers not only helping across the Festival but also stepping forward to build the Dominoes line, appear as extras in the cast of Superman IV: Redux film by Richard DeDomenici and learn choreographed dances for the spectacular finale parade The Colour of Time.

It truly was 10 amazing days that brought Milton Keynes together to live long in the memories of those who came and enjoyed everything on offer.

Quotes from Festival-goers include:
