Is this the end of the mince pie?

Santa SamosaAn Indian restaurant in Stony Stratford has reported that it has had its biggest ever demand for people booking their Christmas Day meal at the restaurant; and 80% have opted for a curry at Calcutta Brasserie!

Despite offering a traditional turkey with all the trimmings, the majority of customers, even the children, have chosen to enjoy a traditional Indian dish with their crackers this Christmas.

Ali Ajmol, Manager at Calcutta Brasserie in Stony Stratford, Milton Keynes says the popularity of visiting the restaurant on December 25th has been growing each year but 2015 has seen a huge increase in demand, with over 120 already booked in on the day. He said; “We started taking bookings as early as March this year and to our surprise, there are very few people wanting to have turkey on the day, so much so that we’ve ordered a smaller bird.”

Calcutta Brasserie’s award-winning chef, Saj Khan has also joined in the festive spirit and created an Indian alternative to the traditional mince pie – the ‘Santa Samosa’. The handmade pastry casing is the same as a traditional Indian samosa but the filling consists of traditional mincemeat with a hint of spice. Saj explains; “I have taken the mincemeat and mixed in spices such as cumin to give a slightly Indian touch but it’s very similar to a mince pie and is delicious with cranberry jelly.”

The ‘Santa Samosa’ is available for customers to buy and they cost £4.95 each for two.

On Christmas Day, Calcutta Brasserie will play Christmas songs such as:

“Curry all ye faithful.”
“All I want for Christmas is Masalla.”
“Santa Bhaji.”
“Dal they know it’s Christmas time?”
“Wonder-phaal Christmas.”
