Date Posted:26/05/2016

MK City OrchestraMilton Keynes City Orchestra is delighted to welcome Russian-born pianist, and BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist, Pavel Kolesnikov for the amazing Tchaikovsky filled season finale, taking place at MK Theatre on Sunday 12th June.

Recognised worldwide for his skill, last autumn saw Pavel named as one of the BBC Radio 3’s New Generation Artists for 2014-2016, a scheme introduced by the BBC in 1999 to nurture young musical talent.

Pavel will play the fabulous Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No. 1. as the centrepiece of this amazing programme, under the baton of Internationally acclaimed Damian Iorio, the Music Director of MKCO.

Born in Siberia to a family of scientists, Pavel studied both the piano and violin for ten years, before concentrating solely on the piano. Following his Wigmore Hall debut in January 2014, the telegraph awarded his recital a five-star review, calling it ‘one of the most memorable of such occasions London has witnessed in a while.’

Since becoming Prize Laureate of the Honens Prize for Piano in 2012, Kolesnikov has been winning hearts around the world, releasing a live recording of his prize-winning performance on the Honens label in March 2013, of which the BBC Music Magazine wrote ‘tremendous clarity, unfailing musicality and considerable beauty.’

Sponsored by Hillier Hopkins, Geoffrey Leaver, Yamaha and MK Council, this concert also features performances of Tchaikovsky’s Queen of Spades Prelude and Symphony No. 5.

Chairman of MKCO, Marian Livingstone said: “We are delighted to welcome Pavel, one of a long line of international stars to perform our repertoire in the last two years. Our Music Director Damian Iorio has attracted these international stars through his connections at an International level. MKCO is setting the benchmark for European and International attraction to MK and producing exceptional performance fit for MK to be considered as European Capital of Culture.”

To ensure classical music fans can make the most of the season finale, MKCO is offering a fantastic ticket deal which sees Band B reduced from £26 to £15 and Band C now £12 down from £18.
