My Wild Winter event at MK1 Shopping Park

MK1 ShoppingMK1 Shopping and Leisure Park, Milton Keynes, is the location for My Wild Winter, a FREE Christmas event for all the family held in partnership with the Berks, Bucks and Oxon Wildlife Trust. Taking place between 10am and 4pm on Saturday 28 November, shoppers of all ages will have the opportunity to learn about how to look after garden wildlife during the winter months and experience a live interactive ice sculpting demonstration that will create intricate sculptures of the nation’s favourite wildlife in ice.  

Shoppers can choose which animals they want to be created in ice by taking part in an online poll at  You can choose from a red squirrel, door mouse, hedgehog or robin.  Each vote cast provides the additional opportunity to win a £20 shopping voucher and there is also a competition to win a place on a sculpting master-class on the day, to create your own ice sculpture through the Facebook page and at  Entrants must be over 12 and T&Cs apply.  

To mark My Wild Winter retailers across MK1 Shopping and Leisure Park will be providing discounts and offers, including kids eat free at Frankie & Benny’s, 2 courses for £11.95 at Pizza Express, a Christmas menu at Chimichanga and 2 courses for £9.99at TGI Friday’s (T&Cs may apply).

Representatives from the Berks, Bucks and Oxon Wildlife Trust will be talking to shoppers, providing information on the fun and interesting ways to help local wildlife over winter – this includes animals such as the red squirrel that are under threat.  Shoppers will also learn astonishing facts about local wildlife, for example did you know that red squirrels can swim, have four fingers, five toes and orange teeth?

Judith Hartley, Catchments Partnership Officer, The Wildlife Trust for Berks, Bucks and Oxon said:  “The red squirrel is a much loved icon of British wildlife and we can all do our bit to help protect them. There are lots of ways to help all of our British wildlife over the winter, from providing extra food for birds to leaving a wild area in your garden for hibernating hedgehogs and insects.”
