Date Posted:31/03/2016

Skating Stars Planet IceFollowing on from the success of last years competition which saw 10 Year old Aimee Kerry-Haynes crowned the winner of Skating Stars 2015 and skating in the national Professionals On Ice show live in Milton Keynes, now Planet Ice wants to do it all over again to give the people of Milton Keynes the opportunity to learn this fantastic sport.

This year we will also be looking for an adult Skating star to feature in the fantastic program.

Planet Ice Milton Keynes will be opening their doors on Saturday April 23rd from midday to select 15 youngsters aged between 6 – 16 and 10 adults aged 17+ to take part in the return of their initiative called ‘Skating Stars’. Planet Ice, with the assistance of Skate Excellence coaches, will be looking initially for 25 contestants with ‘at best’ the basics in skating to undergo a 6 week ‘Skate Excellence’ Learn to Skate programme. After 6 weeks, those that show the biggest commitment and improvement will be asked to continue for a further 6 weeks. Eventually the rink will have just 5 youngsters and 5 adult skaters that will enter into a finals show at the rink in the summer. From there the winner from both categories will go on to star in a special Gala around Christmas time. The winner from the youngsters and adults will also get a fantastic set of skates plus an Unlimited Ice Skating pass for 12 months. All runners up will receive 6 weeks of additional Skate Excellence lessons.

Marketing Manager Keiren Yates explained ‘Having seen the success of last year’s initiative and the journey the candidates went on last year was amazing. 3 of the final 5 now skate at a high level for the Milton Keynes Ice Skating Club and have come so far since they joined skating Stars”.

The selection process is open to young people and adults with no previous ice skating experience. Planet Ice Milton Keynes are planning a finals night gala where each of the finalists will skate two short pieces supported by some fantastic skating from the International school of skating, to an audience of family, friends, and people from the local community.

Keiren continued ‘On the finals night we will announce both a winner and a runner up from each category. Both winners will receive a brand new pair of skates and a year’s free unlimited ice skating and the opportunity of featuring in a local Ice Show’.
