The Big Birdhouse Tour is flying into intu Milton Keynes

Date Posted:05/01/2016

Big Birdhouse Tourintu Milton Keynes is excited to welcome The Big Birdhouse Tour as it landed in the shopping centre on Sunday 3 January, where it will be displayed until Saturday 30 January along with fun bird-inspired activities for families.

In association with the RSPB, the tour comprises of 15 larger than life birdhouses which will line the malls; each one has been individually and artfully designed by well-known British talent to raise money and awareness for the RSPB. The project works to fuse art with life and nature via a 16-month national exhibition across all intu shopping centres.

Families are invited to explore and interact with the supersized birdhouses at intu Milton Keynes as they learn about the importance of giving nature a home. There will be plenty of fun for little ones with a Bird Quest throughout the centre; they’ll learn interesting facts about a bird and will need to solve clues to reveal the species. There will also be colouring fun with the intu Milton Keynes Kids’ Club, and art activities MK Gallery.

Celebrities involved in the project include: The One Show’s Alex Jones, Olympic gold medallist Becky Adlington and silver medallist Iwan Thomas, wildlife TV presenters Steve Backshall and Miranda Krestovnikoff, comedian Vic Reeves and BBC Radio Two DJ, Jo Whiley, among others. Following intu’s partnership with The Beano last summer, the artists from the infamous comic have created their own birdhouse too.

Official RSPB pin badges and nest boxes will be on sale from the customer information desk throughout January in a bid to raise money. The nest boxes are ideal for garden birds and come with advice from the RSPB, which is the UK’s largest nature conservation charity. Nest boxes will be donated to the oak tree saplings which have been planted by Parks Trust around Milton Keynes. The RSPB will also be in centre throughout January so that people can find out more about the work it does and its ‘Give Nature a Home’ campaign, as well as sign up as a member.

Shelley Peppard, general manager at intu Milton Keynes, says: “we are really excited for the launch of The Big Birdhouse Tour; it’s a really great way raise awareness of nature and the garden birds we can all help; it will also get kids excited about birds and get them learning. The birdhouses are fantastic pieces of art and we think our shoppers will enjoy having them in centre throughout January.”
