Ice Rink on the estateHave you seen Torvill and Dean’s new TV show “Ice Rink on the Estate”? Forty years ago learning to skate changed the legendary duos lives, now Planet Ice wants to see what it can do for the youngsters of Milton Keynes. If you’re aged 8 to 14 and are a beginner skater you can take part in the creation of this unique ice skating show.

Planet Ice Milton Keynes are opening their doors on Saturday April 25th from midday to select 15 youngsters to take part in their new initiative called ‘Skating Stars’. Rink Manager Belinda Bassett explained ‘Having seen the work that Chris and Jane did with young people from the community of Nottingham, we felt it was a great opportunity to get on board and try and improve the confidence of youngsters in our community too’.

The selection process is open to young people with no previous ice skating experience. Each of the 15 prospects will be issued with an unlimited skating pass and 6 Learn to Skate lessons to cover a period of 6 weeks. After that period there will be a selection process to take the 15 down to 10, and then after a further 6 weeks the 10 will be taken down to 5 finalists. Planet Ice are then planning a finals night gala where each of the 5 skaters will skate two short pieces supported by some fantastic skating from the rink figure skating club, Skate Excellence, and maybe a celebrity skater or two to an audience of family, friends, and people from the local community.

Belinda continued ‘On the finals night we will announce both a winner and a runner up. Both skaters will receive a brand new pair of skates with the winner also receiving a year’s free unlimited ice skating pass including skating lessons and the opportunity of featuring in a National Ice Show’.

To be involved you need to go online to and fill out the online application. Planet Ice will accept applications filled out on the day but cannot guarantee an opportunity at the selection process.
