We’d seen a few tantalising teaser images of the new Afternoon Tea at the Marco Pierre White Steakhouse Bar & Grill located at stadium MK on social media, so imagine the joy in our office when we were invited to try it out.

After the very competitive game of ‘Rock, Paper, Scissors’ to determine who got to go, off we went to try out this new offering in the pretty saturated market of Afternoon Teas in the local area. Would it cut it? Would the fancy chef’s name on the door make it any different? Would it be worth the cost normally £39.95 for two (but currently on offer during November at £27.95)?

We’d been to the restaurant before, and it is very smart – not your usual cosy café type feel…very black and white, with a more classy feel. We were welcomed to our table and asked what drinks we would like, anything goes not just standard tea and coffee, we went for a latte and a hot chocolate (and they’ll top these up for you whenever you want).

We were asked if we wanted the savoury and sweet parts of the afternoon tea to come out together, but we decided to pace ourselves and just hit the savoury first. This is a very nice selection of finger sandwiches (no crusts, of course); coronation chicken, egg mayonnaise, salmon, ham & chutney and beetroot & goats cheese – all presented on a black slate. They were all very good, full of flavour and freshly prepared. Our only suggestion would have been to have something additionally savoury but a bit different, like a small caramelised red onion tart or a mini bruschetta.

After the sandwiches disappeared, the sweet treats appeared, this made us very happy…and what a selection; two scones with clotted cream and two pots of different flavoured jams, a dish of fresh strawberries to go with the cheesecake pots and then a selection of mini desserts including two different flavoured macarons and a sumptuous chocolate tart.

The baking was light and fresh in every element; we particularly liked the cheesecake pots, not something we’d seen included before in an afternoon tea. The scones were also very good, even still warm out of the oven.

We managed to eat every last mouthful but needless to say, we were absolutely stuffed. For £20 each it was pretty good value, but that is at the top of the price level for afternoon teas in the area. Even better if you can enjoy it with 30% off before the end of November!

Available Monday to Friday 1pm – 5pm and Saturday 12pm – 4pm. Must book a minimum of 24hrs in advance. Why not make it a celebration by adding on free-flowing Prosecco, and pay just £47.95 for two. https://www.mpwrestaurants.co.uk/our-brands/steakhouse-bar-and-grill/milton-keynes/
