Ecstatic Material Sound Sculpture

Venue: MK Gallery, CMK
Date: 13 Feb 2019
Times: 8 pm

Experience MK Gallery’s stunning new auditorium before it opens to the public

The new MK Gallery opens on 16 March, and for one night only on Wednesday 13 February the doors are being opened for an experimental live music tour, Ecstatic Material. Commissioned by Outlands, this brand new collaborative performance will expand and contract over back to back performances at venues across England.

Ecstatic Material is a dynamic sound sculpture made and performed by electronic musician Beatrice Dillon and visual artist Keith Harrison. It is a bright and multicoloured artwork using soft materials (like playdoh) and coloured light with live electronic sound via a surround sound system. Created and operated by the artists within the performance space, audiences will literally see and hear the artwork come alive.

Support comes from DJs Copper Sounds who play records and objects made from copper and ceramic materials. Earlier in the day, they will also lead a workshop where participants can design and cast their own wax 7” record and take it home with them.

MK Gallery’s new auditorium - The Sky Room - is a fully flexible, perfectly equipped new space on the upper floor for up to 300 people, with spectacular views over Campbell Park and the surrounding countryside, which will be used amongst other things as the first independent cinema for Milton Keynes, programmed with Curzon Cinemas.

Ecstatic Material takes place on Wednesday 13 February at 8pm. Tickets cost £10 or £8 in advance from www.mkgallery.org.
